Aurok Composites are a low-volume workshop crafting graphite composite replacement bass guitar necks.

My name is Steve, I'm the founder of Aurok and my story begins on stage.  For twenty years, as a semi-pro bassist, I played graphite-necked basses by Alembic, Modulus, Moses, Musicman, Pangborn, Status, Steinberger and Vigier amongst other brands. What captivated me was their authoritative low-mid projection, the enhanced control over note dynamics, and the creative confidence they inspired.

In 2015 I moved from London to China with my Chinese wife and gave up my career as an urban strategist/designer to become a teacher and entrepreneur.  In 2024 I sold a construction products export agency and went back to teaching, but felt ready for a new challenge.

in 2025, after the last remaining pioneer graphite neck manufacturer left the market, I embraced Richard Branson’s mantra: “Screw it, let’s do it” and set up Aurok Composites.  Firstly because it combined business, bass and design interests but also I felt it was important that the global bass playing community still had access to graphite composite bass necks.

Why choose the name Aurok?  Way back when, Aurochs were the OG cow, beefy, strong, reliable and solid, a fitting metaphor for our necks. The modified change in spelling was a playful riff on music more generally.

Today, we handcraft necks for legendary Leo and Ned-designed basses.  Our mission is to deliver powerful low-end, enhanced articulation, and unwavering stability—transforming your instrument without losing its soul. This is for players who demand consistency, reduced playing effort, and the elimination of dead spots, in any environment.

Long-term, we’re here to define a new standard in performance for graphite necks.  As a small, agile team, we value every customer and can offer true customisation—from OEM partnerships to building directly from your 3D models.  So feel free to order with confidence, we're very happy to answer any questions you might have.  Just hit the contact page and fire away.
Our approach to fabrication is heavily influenced by pioneers such as Geoff Gould, Rob Green and Ned Steinberger and we combine a bit of each in the necks we make.

The fabrication process involves creating a hollow mould within which layers of carbon fibre textile are layered with coats of epoxy resin and then vacuum sealed and baked in a kiln until the resin has set hard.

Once the basic tube has been created, we install a dual action truss rod, fingerboard and a skin of decorative wrap before a thin coat of paint.  We also fill the hollow void in the neck with the same epoxy resin used to contruct the layers of weave. This is to ensure the neck's frequency response is kept as consistent as possible.
From this point on, the fingerboard is radiused and the installation of frets, nut and inlays takes place in the same way as for any wooden neck.

The necks take a total of 6 weeks to fabricate for a standard batch of 5.  This includes QC inspections, during which we will send you photos of the neck and measurements to confirm the specification is what you ordered.  If there are any changes needed, it can add another ten days to the order time.
Currently our solid core SR5 necks weigh 1.3kg and the four string headed necks are around 1.1kg. We are in the process of introducing a proprietary lightweight resin core fill which reduces the weight of the core by 25%. This should bring the weight of a four string headed neck down to less than 1kg.
Feel free to get in touch via the contact page and let us know which model you're interested in and where you would like the neck shipped.  Standard specification necks include dual action truss rods, bone nuts, stainless steel frets, PEEK fingerboards, 17mm tuner holes (for Kluson tuners) and MOP or abalone fingerboard dots.
Currently we produce to order only and orders are processed in batches of 5 per month.  An order slot can be confirmed with a 50% deposit, we accept paypal and bank transfers.  Additionally we offer a no quibble options for refund of that deposit, if we haven't started work on your neck within 30 days.  However once we begin construction, and we have committed resources, the deposit will cover the costs of any abortive work.
There are some limited options available - luminay side (£10) and fingerboard (£30) dots, forged skin (£60), gloss or matt finish. A complete custom fabrication service is also available and prices start at £750 for a single neck plus the cost of any non standard materials e.g. wooden fingerboard, binding etc.  We will also ask you to provide either a sample neck or a 3d digital model of the neck you would like us to make.
We also strongly recommend allowing us to confirm that we can ship to your location before you place an order with us.  For parts of Europe, even if a direct route is not possible, we might be able to send via our UK forwarder via a domestic postal service (e.g. Royal Mail) although it can cost a little more.

With the exception of true temperament frets, it's technically possible to give you anything you would like!  However the line up of necks we offer has been defined by customer demand so far.  The problem for us is that minor, individualised amendments can increase the fabrication time significantly and any increase in labour costs risks making our pricing less competitive.  Our priorities right now are focusing on behind-the-scenes improvements with product quality and production capacity so we can offer off-the-shelf products in the future.  If you subscribe to our newsletter or follow our facebook page, we'll keep you informed of any updates in the future.
The answer depends on your location but we can ship necks with duty pre-paid to the US in 7-10 days and to the UK in 10-14 days.  Parts of Europe might take up to 14 days.   Our logistics partner is very experienced and is able to offer very competitive shipping rates by purchasing unallocated capacity on air-freight consignments.

Indicative costs: Shipping to the US is around US$40-45, we need to confirm prices at the time of shipping with global tariff situation being so fluid.  Shipping to the EU is around 85 Euro for a single neck.  Shipping to the UK is also around £75 for a single neck but we can bulk ship mutiple necks to an agent who will send them out individually.  For a large UK consignment, the cost per neck can be much less than shipping to the US.

We are actively looking for logistics partners in the EU and US so if you have contacts with a proven track record of trust and reliable 'wish fulfillment', we would love to talk more.
Yes, probably, if you can provide a 3d digital model or a sample neck to work off.  However for a single neck, it would be treated as a custom order.
